STOP 1  Big Idea:  People Have Changed the Woods

Did you know the White Pine is the Maine state tree? Look, they are all around you!

Many years ago people have changed the forest here. 
They have cut trees for lumber and cleared the land for their animals.
The rock wall was put there so the animals would not escape from the farm. 
The farmers may have moved the rocks with oxen.

The White Pine is the Maine 
State Tree!
It is the tallest coniferous tree found in Maine, and can grow to be 170 feet tall.
The trunks were used as masts of ships 
by King George of England.
